- Throughout her career Sandra Eisert has been either the first person or the first woman-or-minority in the jobs she has served in. Consistently breaking ground, she has expanded each role, creating more impact for photography while also being a steady champion of opportunities for women and minorities in the newsroom and in universities throughout her career. Of the positions she’s held, the only one she ever applied for was her National Geographic internship where she was NGS’ first visual female or minority intern. She was only NGS’s second picture editing intern – with only staff picture editor O. Louis Mazzatenta having had that intern role 13 years prior.
